According to the United Nations, “Model UN helps students to develop public speaking, writing and research skills. In addition, they often provide the first entry point into international affairs and introduce students to the wide range of peace and security, human rights, development and rule of law issues that are on the UN agenda.”
Prior to the conference, students researched their countries and the topics that their committees covered. During the conference, students are not known by their name, but their country affiliation. Their task over the course of the weekend is to develop a resolution that all countries on the committee can agree to. So Model UN involves a lot of discussion, negotiation, persuasion, and compromise. Our students did a great job on all the committees!
