Tampa Prep was proud to have had three student representatives attend the Latin National Convention, July 21 – 16 at Indiana University Bloomington. The students had the opportunity to live on the college campus for the week while competing and making great friends from around the country.

Ryan S. (Varsity Advanced Certamen team) and Hank C. (JV Advanced Certamen team) competed in the Upper School division while Keya D. (Advanced Novice team) who was the first Middle School Terrapin to compete in the Middle School division, amongst over 1000 students competing in different fields.

Playing for Team Florida, Ryan’s team made finals and placed third overall against Virginia and Georgia (out of 24 total teams) and Keya’s team placed fourth in the nation (out of 18 teams).

The students’ individual results were just as impressive with Keya placing fifth on the Level 1 Myth Test; Hank placing 11th on Roman History Level III and 12th in Geography; and Ryan placing first in Roman History Level IV and second in Latin Derivatives Level IV!

Ryan also had the experience of campaigning for national office. And, although the outcome wasn’t what he hoped for, he still considered this competition (his fifth Nationals), to be his favorite.

“Latin Nationals is always the best week of the year,” said Ryan. “It’s great to be surrounded by people who share the same passion as you.”
