Prep’s Alyssa Williams ’23 was chosen for the prestigious Morehead-Cain Merit Scholarship, which provides a four-year, fully funded educational experience for exceptional student leaders at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Morehead-Cain is the first merit scholarship program established in the United States and founded at the first public university in the United States. Established in 1945 and inspired by the Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University, the Morehead-Cain provides an undergraduate experience without peer.
In her years at Tampa Prep, Alyssa served as an elected student council representative, cum laude member, and varsity basketball player. She was also the founder and president of Rock the Vote, a youth voter registration promotion club, and president of the Science Olympiad Team. Alyssa is an avid community volunteer dedicating more than 600 hours to Tampa Bay nonprofits, including volunteering through the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council, Tampa’s Teen Connect Youth Advisory Board, the Tampa Bay Humane Society, and the Boys and Girls Club through the Bank of America Student Leaders Program. At Carolina, she is interested in studying public health to further pursue her passion for addressing health disparities among minority women regarding sexual health, pregnancy, and childbirth.
