Tampa Prep Junior Davis S. ’26 recently competed in the VEX Robotics World Championship, May 6 – 14 in Dallas, Texas as part of ACE, a private robotics team, and left the competition as a member of one of the top 10 teams (out of over 830 teams from 45 countries who qualified for Worlds) to reach this elite level!
Davis was an integral member of the Tampa Prep robotics teams in 8th, 9th & 10th grade and then received an offer from ACE, a private robotics team based outside of Orlando, as they were searching for a talented programmer. As a member of ACE, Davis has had the opportunity to travel to international competitions, competing globally throughout the school year.
Over the past year, Davis’ team won the coveted Excellence Award (the top award a team can get) at three different international tournaments: Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Calgary, AB, Canada. They were also tournament champions at the Calgary event and at another international competition in Indiana. They were the first team (in the World) to qualify for Worlds and ended up being qualified for Worlds seven times over.
At VEX Worlds, ACE was named champions of their division, winning the sought after “Design Award” and advancing to “the dome” for the World Championship competition.
It has been an experience that Davis wouldn’t trade, as his programming skills have grown and now match those of other top programmers around the world.
For the 2025 – 26 school year, Davis’ senior year, he is excited to work with the Tampa Prep robotics teams, taking a break from competitions and mentoring his classmates throughout their season.
