Last week, Terrapins in Latin Club got to attend and compete in the FJCL State Latin Forum, March 27 – 29 in Orlando.

The students worked very hard over the last few months to prepare for this occasion, and as a result, did superior work! The following students brought home individual honors in creative projects and academic testing respectively:

7th Grade

Keya de Vrede: 4th in Declamations (On the Superiority of Greeks) and 3rd in Mythology
Claire Tapp: 5th in Digital Art (Apollo the Sun God)
Ayla Toro: 7th Solo Costumes (Cassandra of Troy) and 7th in Classical Art
Cooper Peter: 4th in Mystery Test (Vehicles) 10th in Vocabulary 1/2
Nathan Bradford: 7th Declamations (A Tour of Imperial Rome), 1st History of the Empire, 2nd in Boys Marathon, and 1st in Bellum Aquae (Water Wars)
Ethan Caddell: 8th Solo Costumes (Apollo)
Allie Cottrell: 2nd in Solo Costumes (The Oracle of Dodona), 2nd in Classical Art, 5th in Impromptu Art (Myth in the Modern Artistic Style)
Gabriella Comey: 9th in Modern Myth (The Night Blooming Cactus) and 7th in Hellenic History
Alexandra McPhillips: 2nd in Duo Costumes w/Juliet Schar (Etruscan Haruspex and Piacenza Liver), 5th in Classical Geography
Juliet Schar: 2nd in Duo Costumes w/ Alexandra McPhillips (Etruscan Haruspex and Piacenza Liver), 5th in Customs

The Middle School collectively earned:

4th Overall in Creatives
7th Overall in Academics
5th Overall in Olympica and Ludi
7th Overall Sweepstakes (our highest finish in years!)

9th Grade

Lauren Johnson: 2nd in Grammar and 5th in Vocabulary
Charlotte Barber: 6th in Declamations (Persephone and Hades), 4th Latin Derivatives
Lilah Schar: 7th Sculptures, 5th Latin Derivatives

10th Grade

Hank Callahan: 6th in History of the Empire
Ryan Szymansky: 2nd in History of the Empire, 1st in History of the Republic and Monarchy, Best in Show for History of the Republic and Monarchy (50 out of 50 on the test), 3rd in Decathlon (test in 10 subject areas), and elected first member of the FJCL Cabinet in Tampa Prep History as Vice President of the Council
Evelyn Mann: 1st in Modern Myth (Hazardous Hemlock)

12th Grade

Avery Burns: 1st in Digital Art (Arachne)
Gentry Burns: 8th in Models (Temple of Janus Quadrifons)
Madison Baker: 6th in Modern Myth (The Origin of Historilus)

The Upper School collectively earned:

8th in Level 2 Certamen (Classical Jeopardy)
4th in Advanced Certamen (Classical Jeopardy)
18th Overall Sweepstakes

Tampa Preparatory School also raised the most money in the donations event and was awarded special praise for doing so.

In totality, there was a combined 46 total honors between both divisions and a feeling of great well-deserved success from Seniors to 7th Graders. The kiddos worked very hard and are a testament to Tampa Prep’s great Classics Program!
