Meet Robby

Robby was given a lot of options, when choosing a middle school. He was drawn to Tampa Prep’s small class size and welcoming environment.  “Everyone is so open and accepting.  I know that I’ve found my place at Tampa Prep and am really thriving both socially and academically.”

Favorite subject?  “My favorite subject is probably English – I really enjoy writing.  Most of the time, in school, our writing assignments are more structured.  But, when we get to just write freely, I really love to pour myself into my work.  Writing, for me, is a way to express what I’m thinking and how I’m feeling without any barriers.”

Other interests?  “I love theater/acting and I love to draw – it’s another great way to express myself.  I’m currently performing in the school play.  Outside of school, I have Boy Scouts.  I’ve been a Boy Scout since first grade and am planning to go all the way through to come out as an Eagle Scout.  I’ve completed a majority of my responsibilities as a leader in the troop and am just one rank away, right now.  There’s an election process in the troop and I try to enter a new leadership position every semester.  I know that it’ll be a great thing to have on my resume and will boost my chances of success in the future.”

Awards/Accomplishments/recognitions?  “I received two awards from school last year:  Outstanding Achievement in Theater and the First Runner-Up in  Video Production.  And, those just happened to be my two favorite classes!  It’s fun to put so much hard work into something that you love to do.”

Favorite teacher?  “If I had to choose one teacher that I really appreciate and who has helped lead me through my academic career, I’d have to say Mr. Van Dyck.  I’m a big fan of how supportive he is of every student.  He is always willing to go out of his way to help make your experience, as a student, better.  Mr. Mann is also a really great teacher.  I’ve spent a lot of time here at Tampa Prep with him and I feel very comfortable around him.”

Something you’re proud of?  “Something that I feel really proud of is my group of friends.  I have tried my best to surround myself with people who appreciate me for just being myself.  I love being around these people, who always make me smile.  And, I know that we are friends for life. We’re super close, but we aren’t exclusive – we’re always happy to be friendly and welcoming to anybody who wants to be friends.  I consider myself to be rather gregarious and I’m a much happier person when I’m surrounded by good friends.”

Future aspirations?  “I’m immensely interested in forensic science and medicine. And, that’s something that I’d like to follow, in terms of a career. I always bother Ms. Chapman about having a forensics class for 9th grade!  I actually haven’t given much thought yet, to choosing a college but I would like to get out of the country. I know that I don’t want to stay in Tampa for the rest of my life.  I’m really looking forward to going on the spring break trip to London, Paris and Madrid.  And, I’ve been taking French for years.  My dream would be to live in Paris or in Bordeaux.”

Favorite thing about Tampa Prep?  “My favorite thing about the Tampa Prep community is the fact that no matter where you go, you’ll always be welcomed.  Every teacher has their door wide open and they’ll always help you after school.  The teachers are my favorite part – they truly have your best interests at heart.”
